HPLC Systems

Complete HPLC Systems

HPLC or High Performance Liquid Chromatography, is very common analysis equipment in every chemistry lab today. It is also referred to as High Pressure Liquid Chromatography. The HPLC Systems most requested in this type of equipment are: Waters Corporation, and Agilent Technologies Inc. Other manufacturers such as Shimadzu Corporation, Beckman, Hitachi and Gilson are also excellent instruments. Typically, an HPLC system will consist of a pump (for consistent flow rate), an injector (or autosampler), and at least one detector. These systems will also typically use a column oven to adjust and control the temperature of the separation step. There are a variety of detectors available, including UV-VIS, refractive index (RI), photo diode array, and fluorescence.

FAQ about HPLC Systems

1. Will the computer system come with my HPLC?

Every system is different unfortunately, some systems are designed to run manually without a computer interface. Other systems are completely run by the computer and there's no opportunity to run the system manually. For example, the Waters Corporation has excellent software called Empower. The software is incredibly powerful and is the most frequently requested by customers. However, the software is not free to download. There are significant costs for a licensed copy and the proper interface ( LACE Card ).

2. How do you test an HPLC system?

Typically a variety of tests on the pump, detector and the the column heater will indicate a system is functioning properly. With the Agilent Technology Systems, the Lab Advisor software tool provides excellent reports which will verify your system is passing the standard performance tests.

3. Can you and how do you ship an HPLC system?

We typically break down HPL system and components which you'll have to reconnect. Be very careful not to crossthread any of the fittings! This could damage your system. and is not covered under warranty. Depending on your location we do provide installation and training.
