GCMS
Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS)
GC-MS or Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry combines gas chromatograph (GC) and Mass Spectrometry(MS) to identify complex mixtures of chemicals by separation and then analysis of the particles.
What is GCMS?
Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) is a technique for the analysis and quantitation of organic volatile and semi-volatile compounds. Gas chromatography (GC) is used to separates mixtures into individual components using a temperature-controlled capillary column.
How does a GCMS work?
A GCMS instrument is comprised of two parts. The gas chromatography (GC) portion separates and analyzes compounds during the vapor phase without decomposition. The mass spectrometer (MS) uses electric and magnetic fields to measure the mass ("weight") of the charged particles to identify and quantify the chemicals.
What type of information does GCMA give you?
Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometry is used on complex mixtures of chemicals to separate, identify and quantify.
