A Pump is a device that moves fluids (liquids or gasses), or sometimes slurries, by mechanical action. Pumps operate by a reciprocating or rotary mechanism that consumes energy to move fluid. These pumps can be single stage (one impeller) or dual /multi stage (two or more than two impellers). There are many different energy sources: from manual operation, to electricity, engines, and even wind power.
